2nd egg of the flock

We got our very first Easter Egg this afternoon!! For some reason the pictures do not show you just how blue this egg is. Nevertheless, it is blue!! We are so excited to be getting our first eggs. As the title hints, this is our 2nd egg thus far. The first egg is a rather sad tale. We found a white egg, and then found the poor hen that laid it. She was outside the coop and no longer alive. This death can not be pinned on Lulu, like so many before. This death was a result of the cows! Yes, I said it...the cows!! They love the hens so much. And pearl (our lone leghorn) got out and was trampled. That was almost one week ago, and now we are seeing easter eggs!! I love it!!
These Easter Eggs Chickens are supposed to bless us with blue, green, pink, and purple eggs!! I will keep you posted as we discover the others....

Todays Harvest!!

In loving memory....

Yesterday was awful. I dont want to talk about, but I wanted to post some pics of her. I loved her very much, and am thankful to have had the chance to know her. I hope some day when we are reunited she wont be angry or disappointed in me for putting her down. She was truly loved by Todd and I. Addie, we miss you already. With you gone our home is more quiet and less exciting, but because you were here it is a better place. Your love is felt and deeply missed. You truly will be missed.

Wait what???

This is what we saw when we looked out our window this afternoon!! Seriously, all three of us went a little pale. It was hilarious, confusing, disturbing, and oddly fascinating all at the same time. SO, what do you do in this moment, naturally you get out your camera and wait for it to happen again.
And happen again it did. In fact, it happened again and again and again!! Miss Delicious mounting Lady Tasty is not something I ever thought I would see. Now rest assured she is not confused, instead she is claiming dominance. We did a little research and found that when new ones are added into the pasture there is a struggle for dominance. Well Miss Delicious is definitely now the herd leader!!

We woke up and found...

It seems like every time I garden there is a day when I wake up and I am shocked!! Today was that day. We have had super wet and cool days lately, and apparently the vegetables are loving it!! Take a peek at what we found!!!

Tomatoes growing
Yellow Squash or Spaghetti Squash forming
Green Beans flourishing
Zucchini ripening (we have actually already harvested 2 and eaten 1, yumm)
Cucumber getting plump
Broccoli sprouting
Peppers getting juicy
Oh and check out the size of the tomato plants, I swear all overnight!!
Looks like I need to get the pressure cooker and hot water bath ready!!

Summer Fun with Lauren!!

With Todds sister, Lauren, here for the summer (welcome Lauren!) we have been trying to do all sorts of fun things. We have so far been to My Fair Lady, CMA concert, Nashville Sounds baseball game, and then a whole lot of working! Here are some pics thus far in the trip...

This was us at a fantastic performance of My Fair Lady!! It was dark, sorry

Here is the stadium from our nose bleeds seats at the CMA Fest Concert...
At the concert we got to see oodles and oodles of different performances. We saw Chris Young, Clint Black, Trace Adkins, Josh Turner, Thompson Square, Martina McBride, Little Big Town, and Rascal Flatts!! It was awesome!! Poor Lauren, she got to see concerts outside of Utah. The girls behind us went through all the different stages of drunkness. We saw happy and buzzed, mean and drunk, crazy embarrassing wild, sweaty and light headed, sick and nauseous, vomiting and mortified, to finally passed out and dirty. It was hilarious!!! Todd enjoyed watching her the most, although he did sing along with Rascal Flatt's on Life is Highway!!
Oh and PS- Mormon Night at the Nashville Sounds games brings BIG stars!! Check out who Lauren captured at the concession lines...
It has been fun for us, hopefully Lauren is enjoying the summer too! More to come...

Attention Attention...

We have more cows!! Last Saturday we were blessed with two more beautiful heifer babies!! (That is completely appropriate and correct use of the term)
Introducing Betsy Joe. She is a gorgeous Black Angus, but has some white markings from a Hereford cow that was about 4 generations back. Apparently, these cows are more friendly and will soon be our favorite of the herd.
And this lovely lady is Countess Yummy Tummy. She is super fun and so far very curious! She is the smallest of the bunch, and so far the one that misses her Mommy the most. She is slowly coming out of it though.
They have all mingled together very nicely. Miss Delicious is still the team leader. She gets right up front and pushes the others away if she thinks there are treats involved. Yes, cows do have treats. They will lick them right out of your hand!!
See Lauren getting right in there?! They will eat anything you give them. Well, when I say anything I mean if its hay, sweet feed, range cubes, or some sort of grass. So far so good, they are talking a lot so I will try to catch it on video for you!
